Temporary Housing

September 13-18

We have been in our temporary housing for six days. Our family seems to be adjusting well! Two days ago we had our first visitor: a Muscovy duck right outside our door! Julian ran inside to get bread to feed it. He and Brennan started to throw bits to the duck and then two of the duck’s friends swarmed in for a bite. The boys were a little intimidated and ran back into the house.

We have taken advantage of the community pool here often. The boys, Priya and I have gone to swim every morning before we start home schooling. Michael has joined us in the evening twice this week and again this morning. Priya is enjoying the water just as much as the boys. I asked her if she was a little fishy, she responded, “I not a fish, I a dolphin”. It was the cutest thing ever!

We found a Venezuelan community of food trucks with amazing food. The portions are large, but they know how to cook food! The atmosphere is relaxing with fun music, happy families, and friendly staff at the food trucks. It appeared as if we were the only white family there both times we went. Everyone around us spoke Venezuelan or some dialect of Spanish, but the food vendors were able to speak english too.

It wouldn’t be a Florida adventure if I didn’t mention the lizards. The boys are enthralled with the lizards on the sidewalks each day. I have to admit they are pretty cute! Julian would like to catch one just to feel its skin. I personally have a feeling of happiness inside when I see the lizards. All the different lizards make my day just a little bit better when I see them!
